1963 CHEVROLET CORVETTE
VIN DECODER
UNDERSTANDING AND DECODING THE VIN:

The VIN plate could be located on the drivers side door post area into early 1960 just like all the previous years. For the remainder of 1960 as well as '61 and '62, it was on the steering column in the engine compartment.  In 1963 the VIN moved again, this time to the instrument support brace below the glove box.  It stayed there through 1967.

In 1968 the VIN moved to the top of the instrument panel where it was visible through the windshield from the outside.  From this point forward, it stayed there and/or on the windshield support bracket also known as the A-pillar.

How to Decode a VIN Plate:

Fourth & Fifth Characters: Body Style

  67 - Convertible

Note: For convertibles, the 4th digit is a 6.
