ENGINE CODES:

The engine code/stamp identifies the engine assembly plant, assembly date, and engine suffix code stamped by the engine plant. It is located on a machined pad on the engine block. On a V8, you will find the pad on the passenger's side of the engine block at the bottom of the forward end of the head. On a 6 cylinder engine, you will find the pad on the passenger's side of the block towards the forward end near the distributor.


The Engine code format is FMMDDXX.  This breaksdown as follows:

   F - Is the Engine Factory Code.  This will be one of the following:
         F = Flint, MI Motor Facility for 6 cylinder engines
         V = Flint, MI Engine Plant for 8 cylinder engines
         T = Tonawanda, NY Engine Plant

  MM - Month of the year:
         01-12

  DD - Day of the month:
         01-31

  XX - Suffix Code:
